  1. 2-4 dried ancho chiles, stemmed, seeded and broken into pieces.
  2. 1 cup pomegranate juice.
  3. 2 pounds onions, thinly sliced (see kitchen tip)
  4. 1 tablespoon brown sugar.
  5. 1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar.
  6. 1/2 teaspoon salt.
