"pasta" is italian food made out of thin dough in a variety of shapes (some noodles, some not). "noodles" are common food in many countries, and have been for thousands of years. nowadays millions of japanese, chinese, and americans eat "instant noodles -- just add boiling water". they aren't pasta.
